I spent my entire childhood and adolescence in Busan, a city in South Korea, where I grew up near the sea. South Korea has a climate with four distinct seasons, and especially in the summer, it frequently experiences rain and typhoons. As I grew older, I began to notice that the summer weather was becoming increasingly extreme, and I could feel the impact of
environmental changes. The sand at the famous tourist beaches started to disappear, and we had to artificially bring more sand to restore them. The riverside paths where my mother and I used to walk would flood whenever it rained. Severe typhoons caused waves to flood cars and
kill trees. There were even predictions that the village where my mother and I live might disappear in 30 years. While I believe that immediate changes in behavior are the best solution to these environmental changes, my hometown has only focused on drafting plans to build underwater breakwaters.
My mother and I have decided that if I return to Korea, we will leave the city due to the risk of flooding, as we cannot predict how my hometown will change in 30 years.
Based on these experiences, I used AI to create images and videos that imagine the future of my city, conveying both a sense of urgency about environmental changes and my
personal reflections visually.
